WEEKLY WRAP-UP! #19

Hello and happy Sunday everyone! I hope you all are safe and happy, and that some amazing books are keeping you company! Lately, I had not the best of luck, in general, even if nothing really really bad happened, but it wasn’t a great week for my health (August is not a great month, so far, sigh!) and it wasn’t great for the reading, either. But it could have been worse so… let’s see!

What am I reading?

At the moment I am still having a hard time concentrating on only one book. I keep starting them and then putting them on hold because I am not really interested in them. And as you’ll see soon, I tried going back to some series that I loved but it didn’t help as much as I was hoping. Sure, I finished the books, but I didn’t love them as much as I was expecting. But this is for later! Here is for the present, and at the moment I am reading a short Italian mystery, for which I don’t have a cover, but it is pretty short so I think I should finish it without problems, and Weather Girl. I haven’t a TBR for August because well, it is a miracle if I can stick to a book so it would not the best idea, but I wanted to read more non-fantasy or sci-fi books, and this is a step on the right direction. Also, so far I am loving it! Even if I am having a bad case of envy because it rains a lot in this book, and the MC is wearing sweaters! And I am so ready for the Summer to be done!!!! But the book is good!

What have I read?

Blood Trail is the second book in the Vicki Nelson series, and I started this series ages ago and never continued. I can’t honestly remember how many books I read at the time, but I was really interested in going back to it, and so I hoped that this second volume would have been at least a nice distraction. And it started amazingly well but then my interest suddenly disappeared. Sigh! And I don’t think it is the book’s fault. I think that the biggest problem here was my unstable mood. And I can say the same for Beyond The Empire. I loved the first two books in this trilogy, and the third one should have been an immersive and captivating book. Usually, I would have devoured it, but… eh. I enjoyed it, and I am happy to have reached the end of this trilogy but I was hoping to enjoy it more. Advocatus was an interesting book, I have read it for a blog tour, and I am quite happy to have done it because it was unexpected and really enjoyable. And, last but not least, the first volume in a really interesting graphic-novel. It has some interesting characters, the art is really detailed and the story sounds really promising!

What Would I read?

So, I am not really making promises here, since my mood is what it is, and I keep changing my mind quickly, but Foul Lady Fortune is an ARC I should really get reading, so… I am keeping my finger crossed here!

Blogging and Personal Life

This week this would be the juicy part of the post, sorry about that! First thing first, we are almost there with the second edition of SPSFC, and I am mighty intrigued about it. And excited! Sure, it was a ton of work last year, but it was also so satisfying! And fun! So this year I would be a judge again, yay! And I am soooo looking forward to it! I can’t wait!

Isn’t the new banner a beauty?? I am in love! And, again, I can’t wait for the competition to start!
And while I am waiting, I should be able to post the last review for the first year, since I am a bit behind whit my reviews, as a general rule. And I hope to write some ARCs reviews that are overdue, too, since lately, I wasn’t really present on the blog.

On a personal level well… On the 1st day of August, my boyfriend resulted positive for Covid, yay. The lucky bit is that he is not severely ill. Sure, he is not happy about it at all, and feeling well is another thing altogether but… so far it has been like a bad case of flu, so all things considered it wasn’t so bad. But he keeps testing positive, and he is not really feeling way better. A week later I started to feel ill too, but in my case, it was like a cold, a very bad and angry cold, and I kept testing back negative. Until the mid of this week, argh! Sure, at the moment I am not feeling so bad, again, I am not feeling so well, but it feels like a bad case of cold, and my throat is trying to kill me but that aside… it could be worse!
So yeah… this should be all. I really hope to have better news next week, and in the meantime, I will keep my fingers crossed.

And that’s all for today! How was your week? And you reading?? Let me know!!

Happy reading!
S.

Oh no, I’m sorry you and your boyfriend got Covid, but it sounds like it could be a lot worse. I totally understand about not being able to concentrate on reading. Sometimes I keep setting aside books that I know I would love in a different mood. Feel better soon, Susy😁

I hope you and your boyfriend are feeling better soon! I had a really bad reading slump a year or so back and the only thing that worked was re-reading some lightweight books that I had enjoyed. I hope Weather Girl turns out to be as good as the cover looks.

Oh, I hope you both recover soon! Covid is nasty as, I should know, and the tiredness just keeps on even after testing negative. But I’m sure you’ll be right as rain in no time!
