WEEKLY WRAP-UP! #20

Hello everyone and happy Sunday! I hope you all have had a pretty good week! Today I am pretty excited to be finally back with a weekly recap! I have missed them, and since it seems like I am back to reading I have something to talk about with you all, yay!

What am I reading?

I was in need of a book with some interesting AI in it, and thanks to the advice of my SPSFC team members, I have started this book. And oh my, I can’t stop reading it! I am just at the beginning, but I am hooked! I had Ancillary Justice on my TBR and I am just so happy to have started it! The world-building seems so rich and fascinating, and the MC is quite peculiar. I just need more!

What have I read?

Dangerous to Know is the first book in a fantasy series, and I was eager to get started with this one, since I have read two short stories, prequels to this one if I remember correctly, and I loved the MC. And I am glad to say that the first full book didn’t disappoint. Breed is interesting, and I love that he is not human. It is one of the reasons I was so curious to start this series, and it is one of the main reasons I enjoyed this book so much. Bullet Train was interesting, up to a point, but I DNF it because I read through 40% of it, and I was still waiting for the pace to keep up. I can’t say it was bad, because to be honest there were some things that I really enjoyed about it, and it has a real Tarantino atmosphere to it (and to me, this is a plus), but I wasn’t really interested or motivated to continue. I was constantly waiting for the pace to keep up or for something that would have hooked me up, but neither of those happened and I was less and less motivated to pick up the book so… I let it go, sigh! And last but not least, I have read the first book from our SPSFC top ten, and it went pretty well. I hope to write soon a review about Of Cinder and Bone but I can say that this was a compelling book, with real dragons in it! And a lot of actions. Taking a breath was pretty hard!

What Would I read?

After my current reading, I would go back to the SPSFC books and I think that I will try my hands at The Trellis. And if my need for sci-fi holds after that, I will try Velocity Weapon. I had this book on my TBR for quite some time, too, and it was another book recommended to me by my team member, so maybe this would be the right time for it, or at least I hope!!!!

Blogging and Personal Life

Well, this time I hope to be back for good, so I hope to write some reviews, and I am thinking about doing a short TBR while waiting for Winter. But I am not 100% convinced about that, because I am dying to write down a list, sure, but I don’t know if I am so keen to at least try and follow it, to be honest. Yes, I am a bit confused, but I will sort it out, sooner or later! Anyway, I hope to manage a couple of reviews, and maybe some short ones for the books that I enjoyed while I was on hiatus/worst slump ever!

On a personal level, there is not much to say. It is still raining almost daily, and I think I am growing mold. But the real problem is my poor dog, Ade hates water in all its form (aside from snow. Snow is wonderful), so the rain, too is highly annoying for him. And he needs to put on a raincoat. And he despises that too, but now he accepted it because I took him once out on the deluge without it, and he learned that the raincoat is not the worst of the evil. But he is not happy, poor baby!

In the first pic, he was being stubborn, because he didn’t want to lay down (and I needed him to because to drive him around he has to be secured and it can’t be done if he doesn’t stay down the time to clasp him to the security belt). Anyway, he was a bit annoyed because of the rain and the coat and was being stubborn. So while I was waiting for him to reconsider I took a ton of pictures of him, until he get bored and complied. He is the sweetest, really, and I love him to pieces, but he can really be stubborn! In the second pic, there is him while is sleeping out the stress of going out in the rain. And you can notice all his elegance, refinement, and grace. He was snoring too, but you can’t tell from just the picture, lucky you!

Anyhow, while I was not reading and blogging, I managed to watch some tv shows (mostly dramas, but not only those) and go back to video games, and I am pretty satisfied with that. Maybe I would talk about all of these things in a later post. And I am still crocheting!! The thing is quite surprising because I am not the most constant of people, but so far so good. I am enjoying it quite a lot and the idea to be able to make something cute with my hands is really satisfying!

And what about you? How was your week? And what have you read?? Let me know!

Happy reading!
S.

Aww, glade Ade is learning to accept the rain coat! I can’t wait for you to try Velocity Weapon, especially if you’re looking for books with AI! I’ve read Ancillary Justice, it is VERY different than anything I’ve read before. I want to go back to the rest of the series at some point.

I need to get back to a weekly recap – it helps me when I need to look back, etc.
Your dog has a wonderfully expressive face. My dog hated the rain, he would be so excited to go out run to the door, look out, see the rain and look at me as though I was an absolute maniac – like, ‘i’m not going out in that thanks’.

There should be a way to make Ade understand that he looks gorgeous in that red raincoat! Maybe tickling his vanity would work… 😉
Book-wise, I LOVE the cover for Of Cinder and Bone (dragons!!!!) and I look forward to your comments on Velocity Weapon: it’s the amazing start to a great trilogy, so… happy reading!
