WEEKLY WRAP-UP! #29

Hello people! How are you? And how was your first week of December? We get cold and snow, and I was so happy! Ade too… He loves snow and he had such a great time in it! It was a joy to see him play and run and I missed the snow. I grew up in a place where it snows every year and quite a lot. But now I live in a city where doesn’t snow so often, and usually when it does it is just for a bit and you can’t play around in it. But this time we get some real snow and it was awesome! Also, in December I would mood read, and I am curious to see where my mood would take me!

What am I reading?

It seems like I can’t let go sci-fi yet, even if Sci-fi Month is gone, and so I am reading my second Asimov’s book, Foundation and Empire. So far I am enjoying it, even if I prefer the first one, at least so far. And I have also started To hold Up the Sky because I was just so curious!! I am going slow with this one because it is a book of short stories, so I can stop and go back to it whenever I want. The first half of it was amazing, really really amazing! But the second half is not faring so well with me. It is not bad but… Neither is so good. I hope the next stories would be better! And since I am taking my sweet time with this one, I have started The Lord of Stariel too. So far I am really enjoying it! I was in need of this kind of book !

What Have I read?

The first week of the month has the first DNF of December. And I really hope it would be the last, too. Leather and Lace could be a great reading if you are in for a Supernatural fandom story, but it wasn’t the right book for me. I thought that this was inspired by the TV shows and it was an homage to it, and it was ok with me. I am not a big fan of the show but I really like the concept of it (my problem is that after watching a couple of episodes I become extremely bored) and we have a vampire with a chihuahua so I was sold but… Nope. It really wasn’t for me, sadly! I have read another book that wasn’t really for me, but I was luckier with this one and I didn’t dropped it, but I would talk about it in length later or, because I am taking part in the blog tour. The Boy Who Walked Too Far it is a great book, and there are quite a lot of things to appreciate in there, but sadly I didn’t enjoy it as much as I was hoping. But the world-building is vivid and full and original and we get to know some amazing characters! After this book I was in need of something more easy to the mind, and not too demanding so I treated myself with Crochet and Cauldrons. It was just the book I needed and I enjoyed it immensely!

What Would I Read?

Since I am not following a TBR and I am allowing my mood to dictate my reading it would be a surprise, but I think I would go back to Black Butler. This year I haven’t read any manga and I miss them!

Blogging and Personal Life

This week was full of good and bad. The bad is that I know I would work on Christmas but I don’t know what my schedule would be. Usually we have our working schedule settled for 3 months in advance, but twice a year, near the half of December and the half of June we don’t get to know our schedule for the future until two weeks prior, given or taken. So we were waiting for the new schedule and they delivered on Friday… Finally! But they left out Christmas and the 1st of January. It is so annoying!!! Also bad is the fact that, working or not working, we are in a sort of lockdown and so I can’t go back to my parents. And the same goes for my boyfriend. So no big celebration on Christmas or for the end of the year.
But there was a lot of good. Christmas without family is not so good but… Me and my bf would spend our first Christmas together!! We were a couple for 7 years and this would be our first Christmas together. And I am really looking forward to it! And then we get the first snow. And it was so beautiful! As I was saying before that Ade fell in love with it and we had a great time playing around with him!

And another good thing is that we can go out again! I am not really convinced is a good thing, and the kind of lockdown they are making here is not optimal because it is a sort of but not really but… It is quite messy. And people tends to ignore it. And this make me so mad! But I was talking about the good things, so I won’t continue down this road. Suffice to say that we took Ade just for short walks and then we played with him in our yard, but we didn’t go to the park or for longer walk until the lockdown was lightened. And now that it is allowed to go out without restriction in your city (we cannot go in another town or city or wathever but we can go out and about in our own till 10 p.m), at least during the day, we managed to take him to the park and to longer walks. Finally!!
On the blogging side I am partecipating in the Blog Tour for The Boy Who Walked Too Far, so you would find my review on Thursday, but this is the only thing planned!

And what about you? How was your week? And what have you read?? Let me know!

Happy reading! S.

We never get snow here, except maybe twice in the last 20 years, lol. We just started a lockdown in California but this state is so messed up. Half the state don’t respect the governor and they just do whatever they want. So Covid will never go away here, sigh.

Ade seems so excited with all the snow! I hope we’ll get some here toobecause it’s been three years at least without snow for us! And let’s hope you won’t work too late on Christmas! PS I’ll also mood read in December

Glad to see you’re continuing with your Foundation trilogy! I still remember how fantastic it turned out to be. I also want to finally make time for Black Butler in the near future; so many manga and so little time!!! 😛 Sorry to hear about the spoiled plans for the Holidays! Things got a bit worse in case numbers here and it seems like we’re going to have to be much more strict as we enter 2021… Stay safe and happy reading! 😀

I was fearing something boring with the Foundation, being a classic (and sadly I have not the best relationship with classics) but so far is intriguing and fascinating. I have to say that I prefer the first book to this second one, but this was good nonetheless! And Black Butler… I love this series! (and the fact that so many characters are amazing really helps here!) but as you said: so many manga and so little time! This would be the only one I read this year (and it is almost shocking, an entire year and I have read/would read just four o five volumes and for just one manga. And I have so many of them on my TBR!!!)

Sorry you’re missing Christmas with your parents! Still not sure if I’ll seen mine this year for the holidays, they live about an hour away, but Southern California’s supposed to be in lockdown for three weeks, so we’ll see. Anyways, at least there’s always books! Enjoy your reads!

Ade looks so *cute* with his red outdoors vest! Very Christmas-like with the snow 🙂
And indeed this will be a very strange (to say the least) Christmas, but if we want to beat this virus we have to take comfort in the notion that it’s a worthy sacrifice – pity that not everyone is on the same page… grrrr!
