June Wrap-Up!

Hello people! How are you? And how was your June? As per usual, I can’t believe that we are in July… I mean, yesterday it was January and now we have passed the midway point? But where is the time flying???? To be honest, June was a full month, and a tiring one at that, nothing major but between more work, Ade, some social life and the usual things of life, I haven’t read as much as I was hoping. And I also courted a slump. Luckily for me I managed to get out of it before entering it properly, but my reading suffered for it anyway…. oh well, let’s hope July would be better!

Books read: 12 (3 DNF)
Physical books Vs ebooks: 0 vs 12
ARCs: 4

The Very Good Ones!

Sufficiently Advanced Magic was a surprise, and I loved it! It was an original reading, and even it is not perfect it is just so enjoyable! Storm Cursed is the eleventh book in the Mercy Thompson series, and it was as good as I was expecting. I enjoyed the reading and I lost myself between its pages! The Last Emperox was a satisfying ending for a trilogy full of plots and fun! And then there is The Angel of the Crows. I discovered this author in May and I loved her book, so I had to read this one too, and even if it is completely different from the one I have read in May, and it is not on the same level, I enjoyed this one quite a lot!

The Good Ones!

To be completely honest Uncanny Collateral is half a step behind the books I have mentioned before and a half step above these ones, but in the end, I have put it in there. I enjoyed this one a lot, it is really different from the Powder Mage series, and it is quick, fast-paced and with an intriguing world-building. I would continue this series for sure, too! Midnight Blue-Light Special was a fast and fun reading, and I love Aeslin mice so much! I have to admit that this is not my favorite series, but they are a really good reason to keep it going!  Dead Heat is the fourth book in the Alpha & Omega series, it is good and enjoyable reading, but I find the main series more entertaining. And then I have two books that I enjoyed but that were quite disappointing. Aurora Burning was a book I wanted to read so much! I loved the first one and I had great expectations for this one, too. But… it didn’t go so well. It is not a bad book, and I enjoyed it, but the first one was way way better. And Quando Finiscono Le Ombre is an Italian mystery. The previous ones I have read were better, both for the writing and for the characters. I loved the MC, Ardelia, but in this one, it was all… not so great. It wasn’t bad, but, again, not as good as I was expecting!

The DNF!

Those three weren’t the right books for me. Snake Agent especially is quite good, the worldbuilding is interesting and I really appreciated it, but I was on the edge of a slump and the worldbuilding alone wasn’t enough to keep me interested. I think that without the slump I would have finished it and enjoyed it enough, even if not loved it, because it is overall good, or so I think, since I have dropped it, but it is not as special as I was hoping.

Series:
Finished: 1 + 1 last published volume
Continued: 3

Well, even if I didn’t read as much as I was hoping I have at least done well with the series. Sure, I could have done better, but I can’t really complain! I won’t set a goal for July because I have my TBR to follow, but I have put some sequels in there, so I should be covered on this side!

My Reviews!
Sufficiently Advanced Magic
by A. Rowe
The Last Emperox by J. Scalzi
A Shattering of Glass by D. Matthews
The Goblin Emperor vs Saint’s Blood

So, that’s all for today! I hope your June was great and that your July would be even better!

And what about you?  And have you read some of the books I have mentioned? And what have you planned for July?? Let me know!!!

Happy reading!
S.

I have to say that when I tried The Raven Lady I was in a very hard to please mood, and maybe in another period I would have enjoyed it a bit more, but sadly there were some things that were not for me, especially in regards of the characters. I hope you would have more luck with that one!!

Glad you didn’t fall into a full slump, Susy! It looks like you had a pretty good month overall. Sorry that you didn’t enjoy The Raven Lady–I’m hoping to check that one out eventually, but considering I didn’t love the first book now I’m questioning whether I want to pick up book 2….lol. Have a great July!
