Tv Series Watched So Far!

Hello everyone! How are you? I hope you are safe and enjoying this Summer. I know, this is not the most original title out there, but hey! I want to talk about the tv series I have watched in the first six months of the year and I was out of funny or interesting titles. So yeah, the highly unimaginative one. Sorry about that!

Anyway, let’s start! I have watched several series that are adaptations from books or comics, not all of them, but some so… let’s start with them!

I was quite scared by this one because I loved the first book in the series, I highly enjoyed the second one and the other ones I have read (the third and the fourth) were ok, but the main thing about this series (of books) is that I really loved the end of an era vibe. I think that this is my favorite thing about this series, and obviously, it is a very hard thing to translate on video. (Little spoiler: they didn’t manage to do it). So what if they didn’t give this vibe to the series? And then I love Geralt, he is not perfect but he tries his best. He tries so hard that it hurts, really, and I may be biased toward this kind of characters. Yes, I am not a fan of his relationship with Yennefer, but he is entitled to some bad choices, right? And you know what? In some respect, this series was exactly as I was fearing it to be: no “end of an era” vibe, and yes to a lot of Yennefer (and she really is not my favorite character!). But on others, they did a good job with it all. If it true that I don’t like Yennefer, it is also true that they made a great character out of her (she is well developed in the books, but here she is, practically,  the MC) and that they managed to do some justice to Geralt (and the fact that the actor is really good to the eyes helped a lot. I am so shallow, I know!). I was really surprised when I saw myself enjoying this series, but you know what? It is good! And the music and photography were great!

I loved the first season, I think it is one of the best series I have ever watched. We have amazing photography, an intriguing plot, and some great characters. I have binge-watched it, and usually, I didn’t do binge-watching. So I was waiting for this one, and I was ready to love it to pieces. But… nope. This second season was the biggest disappointment ever. I was bored out of mind. The plot was just so plain. And the characters? Nope. Boooooooring. I seriously thought about dropping it but I was watching it with my boyfriend, who didn’t love it but didn’t hate it either. And he hates to left series unfinished, so we watched it till the end. But I won’t watch the third one, because this one was just so plain and so boring. The disappointment broke my heart!

I haven’t read the comics, so I didn’t know what to expect from this one, but I have a ton of mixed feelings. On the one hand, I had enjoyed it, I didn’t love it, but it was ok and I wasn’t bored (or not so much) by it. So this is a win. And again, it is a very well done series. I loved the music in there. But on the other hand, I think that, if we speak about characters and plot, this was poorly done. I wasn’t satisfied with a lot of things, like the incompetence of the villains, for example, who were strong and powerful but just so inept. I think that they are the luckiest villains alive because there are no other explanations for their survival. And I was hoping to like the characters more. I liked Klaus a lot, but that’s all. I don’t know if I would watch the second season, but I think that all things considered, it wasn’t a waste of my time.

This one is not from a book, or a comic, and I have talked about this one a bit before, because, for once, I really loved this series! I have almost binge-watched the two seasons and I can say that I am in love with it. There is not much, plot-wise, but the characters are real portraits, so alive and relatable. All of them. And it is about a lot of delicate themes, but it has a way to it, a tactful way of showing them that it is moving. I think that it deserves some hype! It was not a sweet, cheery thing, but it has an optimistic underline that made you watch the world with different eyes. If you have some spare time, give this one a try!

As you can see I haven’t watched a lot of them, I am not a huge fan of tv series. In theory I love them, but in the end if I have some spare time I prefer to read. And there is the thing that I love to watch Asian dramas (and I love them more than the occidental movies/series) but I watch them alone, while all these series were watched with my boyfriend, and that means less time for them, sadly. I have started a couple of them, but the only one I finished this year, it is not really finished, just dropped. But maybe for the end of the year, I’ll manage to finish some of them, too! (Ok, to be realistic, I don’t think I can manage it, because if I haven’t done it until now, that Ade wasn’t there, it doesn’t seem probable to do it now that he is here, and demanding every spare minute of my attention!).

Anyway, that’s all for today! Have you watched some of these series? And which are the series that you loved? Let me know!

Happy reading!
S.

I didn’t finish the second season of Altered Carbon. I really liked the first season, but the second was just meh – as you say, boring. I quite enjoyed Witcher, though I was not enamoured with the changes to Yen’s character. And yes, it totally missed that ‘end of an era’ vibe!

Not having read the books I sort of enjoyed the first season of The Witcher, although the jury is still out for this one, and season 2 will certainly offer the deciding factor. I agree with you when you say that Yennefer feels more central than the titular character: talk about stealing the show! LOL LOL
As for Altered Carbon, I found season 1 a bit too heavy and dark – and I’m not one to run away from darkness, usually – so I’ve not been eager to watch season 2, and if it did not work for you, who enjoyed the first one, I’m afraid it will not go well with me… But we’ll see…
    Thanks for sharing! 🙂

I loved the Witcher (particularly Geralt and Jaskier’s bickering) but if you didn’t like Yennefer, I can see why you didn’t like it as much!

Agree Altered Carbon season 2 was a bit of a let down. I was so excited for him to go to another planet and instead he ended up at the exact same place. And he treated Poe so poorly!
