Series Maniac! #4 All in Duet Review

Hello world! How are you? Today I am here to talk with you about a series, a duology to be more precise, that I have read thanks to NetGalley, and I am trying to write a review for both books, because it seems quite pointless to write two separate reviews for them since I have read them both and I also hope to reduce the possible spoilers for the people who want to start the series. So… let’s start!

So, a big thank you to NetGalley and to the editor. I received a copy of these books in exchange for an honest review.

Sometimes it only takes a minute. A connection of eyes across a room, a quickened heartbeat, and everything changes.
I was a cocktail waitress with a fondness for partying and meaningless sex.
He owned half of Vegas, with the reputation to match.
I should have turned away. Instead, I stepped closer.
Then, the lies started.
Rumors spread.
Stalking commenced.
And someone died.
None of it stopped me from falling in love.

I have copied just the plot for the first book, so you don’t have any spoiler on the series and the review would be spoiler free, so you can go on without fear!

This is not my usual fantasy review, but if you follow me and have read some of my weekly or monthly recaps you would know that, even if I speak really really often about fantasy, I read a little of all the other genres, too, and today I am here with a romance… gasp! I am not a big fan of the genre, I don’t read as many romance as I read fantasy or thriller, but I like to read them, from time to time, and I really like Alessandra Torre. I love her writing and her characters, that are always complex, problematic and… quite peculiar, one way or another. And I am happy to say that this series didn’t disappoint!

When I saw the first book on NetGalley I had to request it, obviously, and I was really happy when they approved me. I started it right away and let me tell you that I devoured it. I was hooked up from the first line and it didn’t let me go until I reached the end. And I loved it for this. So, once I finished it I needed the second one, I seriously needed it, like physically needed to know how the story would end, so, obviously again, I requested the second book and you know what? They approved me for that one, too! I did a really long happy dance, downloaded it and devoured it. Again. Yep, they are that good.

The story is intriguing, captivating and fast-paced. And even if these books are really fast reading, we can find a lot in these pages: friendship, love, hardship, hurt, adventure, happiness, and steaminess (is this even a word?) all wrapped up in the shining nocturnal world of Las Vegas. But the really great things about this books are the characters and their relationship, not just the romantic ones, but all of the different relationships that we can find in them. For example, I really loved the relationship between Bell and her parents,  even if there is a lot of baggage here, and I loved the relationship between Bell, again, and Rick and Lance, her work’s bosses.
And Bell and Dario are quite unique. I loved them both, Bell because she’s real, and she’s a strong-minded young woman. She hadn’t had an easy life, but she managed to create a new life for herself. It’s true, it’s not perfect and she has some issues, but she’s doing great and she stays true to herself from the start to the end of the story, and it’s a thing that I really appreciated.
And then we have Dario… oh my! Sexy, mind-blowing Mister Dario Capece. The big man in Las Vegas who seems like he can’t keep away from his obsession. Again, Oh My!
He’s an alpha-man, so if you’re not in the mood for them, maybe you should skip this reading. But let me tell you, that I am not a big fan of them, to be honest. I like a bit of “alpha” yes, but I am not a big fan when they start to think like big troglodytes and I don’t close an eye on them. Some of them are criminal in the way they treat women and I am not so prone to ignore the fact, but I am happy, really happy, to say to you that this is not the case. He’s an alpha male and he has some stalker moments, yes, but it’s not the troglodyte type, yay! He’s also a correct person, he tries to do his best for every person dear to him, and I appreciated it a lot. He’s also passional and sexy as hell. Sorry, not sorry!

Also, here we have a “love at first sight” trope, and again I am not a big fan of this trope, but I liked it and it didn’t irk me during the reading. So yay again!

Anyway, Torre’s characters are all unique, some of them are quite borderline or outright psycho, some of them are wonderful human being, but all of them are well developed and amazing. I loved these books, both of them, and I devoured them both because they hooked me up from the start and didn’t let me go.

So, that’s all for today, people! Did you read these books? Or have you heard about them? Let me know!

Happy reading!
